What Hypnotherapy Really Is and How It Actually Works

Let’s just get this out of the way: Hypnotherapy is not about swinging watches, mind control, or clucking like a chicken. (Unless you’re into that. No judgment.)
If you're here, chances are you're curious about hypnotherapy… or maybe slightly skeptical but something inside you whispered, “This might be exactly what I need.” Either way, you’re in the right place.
As someone who used to be the biggest overthinker in the room, I get it — the subconscious mind sounds mystical and a little woo-woo. But here's the truth: Hypnotherapy isn’t magic....It’s science. And it’s incredibly powerful.
At its core, hypnotherapy is a tool that helps you access your subconscious mind which is the part of your brain that runs about 90–95% of your life. Your habits, beliefs, fears, emotional reactions, automatic behaviors? That’s all happening below the surface, on autopilot.
Hypnotherapy helps you get underneath the conscious mind...that noisy voice that overanalyzes, doubts, overthinks, and spirals at 2am....and go straight to the root of what’s really going on.
When you're in a relaxed, focused state (kind of like a deep meditation), I am able to work with your subconscious directly to release old programming and replace it with beliefs, habits, and emotional patterns that actually support the life you're trying to create.
Think about it like your conscious mind is like cutting weeds at the surface... they might disappear for a while, but they always grow back. Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind, which is like pulling those weeds up by the roots so they don’t keep coming back.
So why am I so passionate about this work?
Because I was that overthinking, anxious, high-functioning, people-pleasing woman who tried all the things. Years and years and more years of your traditional talk therapy, journals, self-help books, years of schooling for psychology, more years of schooling learning Christian theology, medication on top of medication on top of a complete mental break-down, prayers, affirmations. Still stuck. Still spiraling. Still asking myself WTF is wrong with me?
I didn’t need more information. I needed transformation.
And I found it when I stopped trying to “fix” myself at the surface… and went deeper. Into the subconscious. Into the nervous system. Into MYSELF. Into the root of it all.
This work helped me heal anxiety, regulate my emotions, reconnect with my body, and (finally) stop apologizing for existing. It helped me come back to me and I created Your Inner Light to help others do the same.
What does a hypnotherapy session look like?
You show up as you are. We chat. We set an intention. Then I gently guide you into a calm state of awareness (you’re fully in control the whole time). From there, we access the subconscious and do the work your conscious mind can’t quite get to.
Most clients feel relaxed, empowered, and often lighter, like something finally clicked into place.
And I promise: This isn’t about tricks or trends. It’s real healing that combines the power of neuroscience, the wisdom of intuition, and the safety of trauma-informed care.
