One Trip Around the Sun: Awakening to a Bigger God and a Smaller Me

People talk about higher frequency like it’s a destination. Like once you arrive, you’re calmer, wiser, unbothered by pain, floating somewhere above real life.
That hasn’t been my experience.
Awakening didn’t lift me out of my humanity.
It dropped me deeper into it.
What changed wasn’t my emotions... it was my perspective. And science backs that up more than most people realize.
What “Higher Frequency” Really Points To (In Human Terms)
When people talk about frequency, they’re often describing states of the nervous system.
When we’re stuck in survival...fight, flight, freeze...our world feels small, urgent, threatening. Our brains narrow their focus. Everything feels personal. Heavy. Loud.
When the nervous system feels safe, regulated, and connected, the brain literally processes information differently. There’s more openness. More curiosity. More capacity for nuance.
Higher frequency isn’t spiritual superiority.
It’s lower nervous-system threat.
You still feel grief. You still feel anger.
But those emotions move through you instead of consuming you.
Christianity Was the Door, Not the Thing I Escaped
This matters to say out loud.
My awakening didn’t happen despite Christianity.
It happened through it.
Prayer taught me stillness long before I understood regulation. Surrender softened my grip on control. Reverence slowed my body down. Compassion expanded my capacity to hold others without fixing them.
From a scientific lens, practices like prayer and contemplation calm the stress response, shift attention inward, and create coherence between mind and body.
From a spiritual lens, they opened me to God.
I didn’t lose my faith as my awareness expanded.
God got bigger.
Awe Changes the Brain (And Death Forces Awe)
Here’s where science and grief intersect.
Awe, true awe... quietly reorganizes us.
When humans experience vastness (the night sky, the ocean, deep grief, birth, death), the brain reduces self-focus. The ego loosens. The need to control fades.
Psychology calls this the “small self” effect.
Spiritually, I call it humility.
Death does this whether we want it to or not.
Loss collapses illusion. It recalibrates priority. It pulls us out of trivial stress and into the present moment because the nervous system has no other option.
Death didn’t make me fearless.
But it made me honest.
One Tiny Life. One Spin Around the Sun.
We just completed another trip around the sun.
We call it a year.
The universe calls it a lap.
From a cosmic perspective, my entire life is a blink. A breath. A moment so small it almost shouldn’t matter.
And yet, here I am. Feeling. Loving. Healing. Wondering.
That realization did something unexpected:
It didn’t make me feel insignificant.
It made me feel free.
When you zoom out far enough, urgency softens. Perfection loosens its grip. Fear loses its authority.
This is awe at work.
Awakening Is a Shift in Perception, Not Identity
Enlightenment isn’t a personality upgrade.
It’s a perceptual one.
Awakening feels like:
Less reactivity
More compassion
Slower judgments
Greater tolerance for uncertainty
A deeper ability to pause before responding
Neuroscience would say your brain is integrating more information instead of defaulting to threat responses.
Spiritually, it feels like choosing love more often than fear.
Awakening isn’t knowing everything.
It’s being okay not knowing and staying open anyway.
Higher Frequency = Lower Resistance
Elevation, for me, has looked like letting go.
Letting go of rigid identities.
Letting go of shame narratives.
Letting go of needing certainty to feel safe.
When the body stops resisting reality, energy frees up. Emotion flows. Insight arrives more easily.
Higher frequency doesn’t mean rising above humanity.
It means sinking fully into it, without armor.
God Got Bigger, Not Smaller
The more I understand the vastness of the universe, the more reverent I become.
Science didn’t replace God for me.
It expanded my sense of Him.
A God who exists only inside certainty is small.
A God who holds mystery, awe, vastness, and the nervous system itself feels infinite.
Faith stopped being something I tried to perform correctly and became something I experienced in my body.
Maybe This Is What Awakening Really Is
Maybe awakening isn’t about becoming something new.
Maybe it’s about remembering how small we are…and how deeply held we’ve always been.
One tiny life.
One brief trip around the sun.
And somehow, still sacred.
Still meaningful.
Still love.

No fixing. No forcing. Just space to breathe and listen.
Sending love and light, always.... Michele
