One Trigger, Two Realities: How Instincts Reveal the Map of Our Inner World

Your instinct is more than reaction—it’s a mirror.
Not long ago, my boyfriend, Jeff, and I had one of those conversations that catches you off guard. The kind that lays bare the architecture of how we think and feel. We were talking about instincts, and how differently we experience the world.
He paused, then gave an example that stopped me in my tracks.
He said, “If someone broke into the house and shot you, your first thought would be, ‘Why would they do that?’ You’d be wondering what led them to that point, what pain or story they were carrying. Me? I’d be chasing them down, trying to kill them.”
Interesting, right? Neither way is right, and neither way is wrong. They're both just as they are.
Our Reactions Are Mirrors
That moment clarified something I’ve always sensed but hadn’t fully put into words: our instinctive reactions say more about us than the situation itself. They act like mirrors, reflecting our inner wiring, our lived experience, and the orientation of our ego centers; those energetic focal points that govern how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
Jeff is analytical. Grounded. His instincts come from a place of logic and real-world awareness. He’s focused on the tangible, the what is. His ego center orients around protection, clarity, and control. A laser-focused sense of presence that says, “This is happening. How do I stop it?”
Me? I’m more of the “head-in-the-clouds, soul-in-the-stars” type. I instinctively seek meaning, even in chaos. My ego center is driven by curiosity and connection. Even in pain, I want to understand. I crave the why before I react to the what.
Neither is better. But they are different. And those differences shape everything.
Nature vs. Nurture: The Blueprint Behind Instinct
How do two people see the same storm but feel it differently?
It starts with our foundations. The way we’re raised. The environments we’ve adapted to. The trauma we’ve carried or avoided. These all become blueprints in our ego centers; some of us build for survival, others for understanding.
His instincts come from a lifetime of staying grounded in reality. Mine come from constantly asking what's underneath it all. His ego center sharpens into action. Mine softens into inquiry.
Empathy as an Instinct
Some people think empathy is a choice. For me, it’s automatic. If I see someone hurting, even if they’re the one causing pain, my mind goes to: What made them this way? What happened to their heart?
That doesn’t mean I condone harm, it just means my energy system is wired to seek root causes, not just surface symptoms.
For him, empathy comes too, but it often arrives after he’s ensured safety. His system says: secure the perimeter, then process. It’s brilliant. It’s just different.
Survival vs. Spiritual Seeking
This story made me realize: some people are born protectors. Others are born seekers. We need both in this world.
Jeff's ego center is tethered to action. Mine is more aligned with spiritual expansion. When something shatters, he wants to fix it. I want to feel it, learn from it, maybe even ask it to stay a while so it can speak.
Our Differences Don't Divide; They Deepen
In a world obsessed with compatibility, we often forget that contrast creates balance. He grounds me when I spiral into abstraction. I invite him to feel deeper, slow down, and connect with things that aren’t immediately visible.
Together, we create something neither of us could hold alone.
We are different, but not divided. We are mirrors and anchors for one another. That’s what makes love grow; not sameness, but synergy.
The Call of the Ego Centers
Ego centers aren’t bad. They’re the places we live from; the places we default to when something shakes us. Some people are anchored in action and logic. Others are guided by intuition and feeling. Some in fear, or love, or curiosity.
The magic happens when we realize we can move between them; heal them, expand them, and choose how we respond rather than react. That’s the work I do with clients: helping them find where their energy is stuck, where their ego is in survival mode, and how to bring them back into wholeness.
Closing: What’s Your First Reaction?
So let me ask you: When something unexpected happens, when you’re triggered or hurt or surprised, what’s your first instinct?
Do you want to run, fix, control, soothe, or understand?
There’s no wrong answer. But your answer tells a story.
If you’re ready to explore that story, if you’re feeling stuck in an old pattern or disconnected from the deeper why of your life, I invite you to work with me.
I offer energy healing and hypnosis sessions designed to help you reconnect with your deeper truth, move past fear, and align your ego center with your path. In your session, we spend about an hour focused on clearing and rebalancing the ego centers; those inner energetic hubs where old fear, trauma, or conditioning can get stuck. Once these centers are cleared, we create space for authentic, aligned, deeply felt energy to move through you, opening the way for clarity, emotional healing, and soul-level transformation.
If you're ready to dive in, and start living a life that feels more aligned, balanced, and abundant, book your session and let's get started!
